Cushion Designer/Sample Product Sewer

Plantation Patterns, a division of NBGHome, is a manufacturer and distributor of high quality outdoor cushions and umbrellas in the United States. We are currently seeking a Cushion Designer/Sample ProductTechnician to be based in our Birmingham, AL facility.

 

Summary

This position is responsible for performing routine and simple sewing tasks and will execute the Division’s sample order process and support the MTO (Made to Order) production orders produced both in house and externally produced at 3<sup>rd</sup> party facilities.  This position reports to the Assistant Production Manager-Product Development and MTO.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following with other duties as assigned:

  • Executes the sample order process including processing of orders and materials coordination as required.
  • Cuts, sews, stuffs, and finishes samples as needed to support order requirements.
  • Operates automated cutting equipment.
  • Assists in MTO production when necessary.
  • Maintains clean and organized work areas at all times, including patterns, sample fabric, and sample fiber
  • Performs routine machine maintenance as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with automated textile cutting equipment platforms such as Lectra or Gerber including operation and programming.
  • Knowledge and experience with sewing technique and pattern interpretation is required, including trim and accessory application is desired.
  • This role is expected to be team-oriented and versatile in time management with a focus on safety and accuracy.
  • A beginner to intermediate skillset in Microsoft Office products is required including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with enterprise data management platforms such as SAP, FileMaker databases and project management software is desired.

Requirements:

Required education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

Required experience:

  • At least one (1) year sewing experience required.

  • Manufacturing, production and operations experience preferable. 

  • Exceptional hand-eye coordination is essential. 

  • Experience using industrial cutting & sewing equipment preferred.

  • Knowledge and experience with sewing technique and pattern interpretation is required, including trim and accessory application.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Basic math skills and understanding of three-dimensional space textile characteristics required.
